Second Life has been an online pioneer since 2003, giving residents a vibrant virtual space to explore, socialize, and create. Its built-in Linden Scripting Language (LSL) has powered millions of interactive objects and experiences. Now, in 2025, Linden Lab is introducing Lua scripting to offer creators a modern and flexible programming option with broad adoption across the industry.

SLua builds on that foundation with faster performance, lower memory use, and a cleaner syntax. It is currently available in open beta on the main grid, in designated SLua Beta regions.

SLua introduces modern features like tables, dynamic event handling, multiple timers, coroutines, JSON support, and optional type annotations. These additions make scripts easier to write, debug, and maintain while remaining familiar to both LSL and Lua developers.
