Tips & Tricks

Don't Miss the Active Speakers Window

The Active Speakers window is a useful feature for seeing who is speaking and controlling the volume of each speaker in a conversation. To open it, click on the button with speaking bubbles on it, immediately to the left of the "Talk" button. If you're engaged in active conversation with other nearby avatars, you'll see a list of the participants in that conversation. This tells you not only who is speaking, but also who can hear you. The name of the active or most recent speaker automatically moves to the top of list.

Sort by Name to Stop the List from Moving

If speakers' names are moving around too quickly, just click on "Names". This sorts the list of speakers alphabetically by name. When the speaking icon is green or red and moving, you can still see who's speaking - but the list itself won't move.

Use the Active Speakers Window to Control a Speaker's Volume

When you're speaking with several avatars in a group, some of them may sound too quiet or too loud. Fortunately, there's a way to fix this that doesn't involve walking toward or away from avatars. In the Active Speakers window, click on the name of the person whose volume you want to adjust. You will see a volume slider at the bottom of the Active Speakers window. Adjust the volume until a particular speaker sounds right to you.
