For its first Winter Festival (starting Saturday, December 18th) Linden Lab is donating vast tracts of unclaimed arctic land, so residents can build brilliant creations with a holiday flavor across its snowy expanse—ice sculptures, snowmen, Christmas trees, and other frozen delights.

Five Festival ice skating parties are also planned on Lake Zermatt’s frozen surface; live DJs and skates provided, but be sure to bring wool mittens, if you want to keep warm.

Meanwhile, residents are inventing their own unique ways to deck the halls. Take Maggie Miller’s community-trimmed Christmas tree in Taber, now in-world for its second Christmas, or Neualtenburg City’s ornament creation contest, held high in the mountains of that medieval Bavarian town.

Plus next Tuesday, December 21st at 3:30pm PST, Linden Lab has scheduled a massive snowball fight between the Lindens and the Residents of Second Life. Complete and utter chaos is guaranteed.
I've got to see this...

MMORPG reopens in Second Life, bigger and badder than ever

Dark Life - a skill-based roleplaying game - recently opened on the island of Navora to the relief of Second Life Residents with a desire to slay creepy monsters.

Players wear a backpack (containing game code) and venture into a dark castle to do battle with a variety of vile creatures including swamp spawn, deadly flowers and even a giant brain.

Along the way there are multiple ways to grab treasure, gather magic potions and spells and level up just like in your favorite roleplaying game.
