HOME / LAND / SELLING AND DISPOSING OF LAND
If you find that you need to get rid of some land that you no longer want, there are two options. You can Sell it to other Residents or you can Abandon the land altogether.
SELLING LAND
Below is a simple run-through explaining how you can sell land in Second Life.
- Study the Search window, Land Sales tab and take note of similar land that is already available to get a feel for the prices that parcels of the same size are being offered at. You may also want to look at Resident run land services too.
- Also keep in mind that Mature land tends to be slightly more valuable than PG land, and that land with waterfront will often fetch higher prices.
- Whilst on your land, right-click the ground and choose About Land (or click the parcel's title at the top of the window).
- On the About Land window, General tab - you will see several controls related to selling the land parcel. First thing to do, is enter the price in linden dollars, that you want for your land.
- If you want to sell your land to a particular person, use the Set button to fix the Sell Land To setting. That way no-one but that person will be able to buy the land. useful for selling land to friends.
- If you wish to sell the land contents (any that you have permissions on), you can tick the Sell Objects With Land tickbox. With this ticked, the next buyer of your land will inherit all the objects, house, etc as well.
- Go to the Options tab. If there is no image set for the land, take a good snapshot, and drag it from your inventory to set one.
- With price already set, you can now tick the For Sale tickbox. Your land will now appear in the Search window for land buyers to see.
ABANDONING LAND
Sometimes you may need to offload some land quickly and not wish to wait to sell it. In this case you can click the Abandon Land button on the General tab of the About Land window. This is essentially throwing the land away; causing the land to become Linden owned land. You will get no money from doing this - so be very sure this is what you want to do.
