DEEDING LAND OR OBJECTS TO GROUP

Groups can own land or content. Officers can Deed (give) land or objects to the group, after which they become useable by group members and officers alike. It is important to understand that a deeded item does not belong to you anymore, it belongs to the group.

When editing objects, you will see a Group option under the name; this is where you can set the object to your Group before clicking the Deed button to make it fully Group owned. For Land, a similar process exists - on the About Land screen you can set a parcel of land to a Group, and you can then Deed (give) it to the group. This makes the land Group owned.

Important Note

When you deed land to a group, you will no longer own it. The group owns it, and your rights to that land extend only so far as your membership in that group allows. If you are a member, you have no control over that land any more. If you are an officer, you retain the right to sell or manage the land on behalf of the group - and you share this right equally with any other group officers.

It is therefore vital that you trust your fellow officers, because they have total authority over the group assets. It is entirely within any officer's rights to sell group land, even to themselves or a rival group, without seeking approval beforehand if they so wish. Similarly officers have the right to invite other residents into the group as officers or members, and the right to remove members from the group if they want to.

When considering inviting someone to be an officer in your group, you need to be very sure because all group assets will be under their control as well as your own.
