OVERVIEW
All basic and premium account holders have full access to the build tools. You can build on your own land, on land owned by a group you are a member of, and in public sandboxes. It is generally best not to build on land without the land owners permission.
All of the objects, houses and attachments you see inworld are made up of primitive shapes that have been manipulated and textured, then joined together to make things. These basic building blocks are called prims for short. A chair might be made up of 6 prims, a house might be made from 50 prims.
The number of prims you can use depends on where you are building, and how much land you or your group owns in that region. On your own land, there will be a limit - visible on the Objects tab of your About Land window. The more land you own in that region, the more prims you can use. Prim allowance from land in one region, cannot be used in another region. These rules also apply to the group owned land. In the linden sandboxes, so long as you're not adversely affecting other residents or the server performance there, you can use as many prims as you need (up to the 15000 maximum that a region currently supports).
